What Ya Listen To

As I have stated before, music is pretty important to me. I know that anyone who knows me will find that shocking. Well its been a long time sense I have subjected the world to my thoughts on the music I am actually listening to. So I figured why not!!!

The Burnside Exploration - "The Record"
I just want to put the White Stripes on noitce this is how a Guitar and Drum blues duos should be done. The group is made up of Gary and Cedric Burnside. Gary is the son of recently deseased blues legend R.L. Burnside and Cedric is R.L.'s grandson. The album also features James "Jimbo" Mathus on guitar and was recorded in his studio in Clarksdale. But this is not a cover album or imitation of the elder Burnside.
They do what all good next generation artist need to do, they push the music forward while holding on to the roots. They definitely pay homage to their north Mississippi hill roots but are not shackled to it. You can hear everything from Chicago style blues, to piano blues, to some elements of modern rock and of course some of that Burnside/Kimbrough style that made this family famous in the first place.
It is a good modern take on the blues.
Just listening to this album makes me want to go see them perform live and that is the hallmark of any good ablum, to me anyway. And I will, I found out today they are playing at The Thirsty Hippo next Thursday.

Broken Social Scene - Self Titled
Alot like The Polyphonic Spree but without the head full of acid, so it sound nothing like the Polyphonic Spree(PS). But Broken Social Scene(BSS), do create grand and rich soundscapes like the Polyphonic Spree, but holding a harder modern rock edge to them. Probably a better comparison can be made to Mars Volta , but with out the overarcing theme to their album. This is one of those bands/albums that is hard to explain in writing. But is definitely worth listening to.

Danger Doom - The Mouse and the Mask
Finally, a rap album for late night cartoon watching comic book fanboys. Created by MF Doom, who actually performs in a Doctor Doom mask, and DJ Danger Mouse who is most famous for mixing Jay-Z's Black Album and The Beatles White Ablum to make the The Gray Album. Get it? Black and White make Gray! Anyway this album is written about the character of Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. The album feature characters from Space Ghost Coast to Coast, Sealab 2021, Harvey Birdman: Attnory at Law, and Aqua Teen Hungery Force. If you are a fan of those show this is a must have, even if it is just to hear Meatwad rap! Be warned it is a novality CD and after a few listen you will want to forget about it for awhile. Check out the video for A.T.H.F. on the homepage.

The Detroit Cobras - Baby
There is jsut something really cool about this band. Is it the incredible hot lead singer, who can actually sing? Maybe. It is that their songs have the sound of being covers of Motown songs, but with a rock twist? Maybe. I don't know! There is jsut something very cool about this group. Wish I was getting to go to NOLA to see them on the sixth. You really should do yourself a favor and go out to hear something from this band.

John Mayer Trio - Try!
I know what you are thinking, I can't have just read the words "John Mayer" on this website. While John Mayer maybe a commerical radio friendly popster, this album isn't. The man has always had skill, you just have to hear the break down on "Your Body is a Wondeland" to know that. But this album is something new.
I give John credit for trying to spread his love of the blues to an audience of screaming teenage girls. It is something of a rarity to see a mellow popster like Mayer really bring some gritty blues rock. He cover both Hendrix's "Wait till Tomorrow" (my personal favorite Hendrix song) and Ray Charles's "I got a Woman"(Thanks the movie "Ray" and Kanya West's "Gold digger" this is a bit played out, but at least Mayer attacks the song with conviction), and does both well. Plus showcase a few new songs in this new gritty style. If it wasn't for the presence of the song "Daughter" you might not even know who this album was by. The album isn't flawless, but it is an interesting move and will keep people like me watching out for what comes next from mister Mayer.

Just for the Fun of It!!!

I just thought this was funny! Yeah, I am strange!

Chuck Norris Facts

Chuck Norris' tears cure cancer. Too bad he has never cried.

Rather than being birthed like a normal child, Chuck Norris instead
decided to punch his way out of his mother's womb. Shortly thereafter
he grew a beard.

When Chuck Norris plays Oregon Trail his family does not die from
cholera or dysentery, but rather roundhouse kicks to the face. He also
requires no wagon, since he carries the oxen, axels, and buffalo meat
on his back. He always makes it to Oregon before you.

Chuck Norris sold his soul to the devil for his rugged good looks and
unparalleled martial arts ability. Shortly after the transaction was
finalized, Chuck roundhouse kicked the devil in the face and took his
soul back. The devil, who appreciates irony, couldn't stay mad and
admitted he should have seen it coming. They now play poker every
second Wednesday of the month.

Chuck Norris recently had the idea to sell his urine as a canned
beverage. We know this beverage as Red Bull.

Chuck Norris's girlfriend once asked him how much wood a woodchuck
could chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood. He then shouted, "HOW
DARE YOU RHYME IN THE PRESENCE OF CHUCK NORRIS!" and ripped out her
throat. Holding his girlfriend's bloody throat in his hand he
bellowed, "Don't fuck with Chuck!" Two years and five months later he
realized the irony of this statement and laughed so hard that anyone
within a hundred mile radius of the blast went deaf.

A man once asked Chuck Norris if his real name is "Charles". Chuck
Norris did not respond, he simply stared at him until he exploded.

Chuck Norris built a time machine and went back in time to stop the
JFK assassination. As Oswald shot, Chuck met all three bullets with
his beard, deflecting them. JFK's head exploded out of sheer
amazement.

To prove it isn't that big of a deal to beat cancer. Chuck Norris
smoked 15 cartons of cigarettes a day for 2 years and aquired 7
different kinds of cancer only to rid them from his body by flexing
for 30 minutes. Beat that, Lance Armstrong.

Chuck Norris was the fourth Wiseman. He brought baby Jesus the gift of
"beard". Jesus wore it proudly to his dying day. The other Wisemen,
jealous of Jesus' obvious gift favoritism, used their combined
influence to have Chuck omitted from the Bible. Shortly after all
three died of roundhouse kick related deaths.

The original theme song to the Transformers was actually "Chuck
Norris--more than meets the eye, Chuck Norris--robot in disguise," and
starred Chuck Norris as a Texas Ranger who defended the earth from
drug-dealing Decepticons and could turn into a pick-up. This was far
too much awesome for a single show, however, so it was divided.

Chuck Norris does not sleep. He waits.

Chuck Norris can make a woman climax by simply pointing at her and
saying "booya".

Chuck Norris once shot a German plane down with his finger, by yelling, "Bang!"

Chuck Norris lives by only one rule: No Asian Chicks.

The chief export of Chuck Norris is pain.

After much debate, President Truman decided to drop the atomic bomb on
Hiroshima rather than the alternative of sending Chuck Norris. His
reasoning? It was more "humane".

Chuck Norris is currently suing NBC, claiming Law and Order are
trademarked names for his left and right legs.

Chuck Norris found out about Conan O'Brien's lever that shows clips
from "Walker: Texas Ranger" and is working on a way to make it show
clips of Norris having sex with Conan's wife.

Chuck Norris took my virginity, and he will sure as hell take yours.
If you're thinking to yourself, "That's impossible, I already lost my
virginity.", then you are dead wrong.

Chuck Norris once went to a frat party, and proceeded to roundhouse
every popped collar in sight. He then drank three kegs and shit on
their floor, just because he's Chuck Norris.

If you can see Chuck Norris, he can see you. If you can't see Chuck
Norris you may be only seconds away from death.

When God said, "Let there be light", Chuck Norris said, "say please."

Chuck Norris punched a woman in the vagina when she didn't give him
exact change.

Chuck Norris frequently signs up for beginner karate classes, just so
he can "accidentally" beat the shit out of little kids.

Hellen Keller's favorite color is Chuck Norris.

Chuck Norris once tried to sue Burger King after they refused to put
razor wire in his Whopper Jr., insisting that that actually is "his"
way.

One of the greatest cover-ups of the last century was the fact that
Hitler did not commit suicide in his bunker, but was in fact
tea-bagged to death by Chuck Norris.

Chuck Norris doesnt see dead people. He makes people dead.

When Chuck Norris's wife burned the turkey one Thanksgiving, Chuck
said, "Don't worry about it honey," and went into his backyard. He
came back five minutes later with a live turkey, ate it whole, and
when he threw it up a few seconds later it was fully cooked and came
with cranberry sauce. When his wife asked him how he had done it, he
gave her a roundhouse kick to the face and said, "Never question Chuck
Norris."

Superbowl!!!

So the Superbowl will be February 5th between the AFC champions Pittsburg Steelers verse the NFC champions Seattle Seahawks in Detriot.

The Steelers pretty much destroyed the Denver Broncos. With Ben Roethlisberger having a good game.

Then the Seahawks destroyed the Panthers. And their QB, Matt Hasselbeck, had an awesome game too!

So my prediction for the Superbowl is....good commercials! Just messing with you. Both teams are good defensively, so it should come down to which QB keeps his head in the Big Game. You can look for former Alabama star, Shaun Alexander(NFL MVP), to make a big impact. But I got to admit a bias for Jerome "The Bus" Bettis. This man deserves a Superbowl win at some point.

My prediction is for the Steelers for the win in a close game. As with the last few year, probably by a field goal.

Is the Future Here?!?!

From Yahoo News
This undated photo provided by Eclipse Aviation, shows their version of a 'microjet' or 'very light jet.' Taking off for the first time in 2006 will be small, speedy, cheap jets that big airlines worry will cause traffic jams around major metropolitan areas. With two engines each the size of washing machines and seating capacity for five or six people, they cost half as much as the most inexpensive business jet. Three thousand of the little jets are already on order at three manufacturers.

Soooooo.....who wants to help me buy a Jet? I promise to fly around with you. We can put a KICKASS!!! steroe and fly, while bumping some DMX,Led Zep, Johnny Cash, The Ramones, or some Burnside! We can quickly go visit friends in far away lands like Floride or Missiour. It would be awesome. Who's In???

Maybe the Greatest Movie....

...to star the Ramones
I probably have not seen this movie in fifteen years. I was thirteen at the time, and this movie was my first introduction to the world of punk rock. Although at the time I didn't know it was punk rock. I just thought is was Rock and/or Roll! But to a thirteen year old the Ramones are the perfect band. They are, of course, loud, fast and hard, but they also emboby a strange cartoony quality that still appeals to the kid in me. And of course they are the Heroes of the film.
To say this is a B-movie is an understatement. The plot is about a young songwriter trying to get help from the Ramones. The high school she attend is being run by a fascist that has outlawed music, espicially rock music. Now I can see the movie is a throw back to the teen movies of the 1950s, Youth verse Authority films. But for the thirteen year old that is me, this movies this always going to be about funny gags and "that band".

For the Anima Lovers Out There

From Aintitcool.com
Turner Classic Movies is colorcasting nine features directed by Hayao Miyazaki over the next four Thursdays.
They’re running commercial-free, but I don’t know yet if TCM is cutting out the dirty parts.
The rundown:
Jan. 5
Spirited Away (2001) 8 p.m.
Princess Mononoke (1997) 10:15 p.m.
Jan. 12
Nausicaa of the Valley (1984)) 8 p.m.
Castle in the Sky (1986) 10 p.m.
Jan. 19
My Neighbor Totoro (1988) 8 p.m.
Porco Rosso (1992) 9:30 p.m.
Whisper of the Heart (1995) 11:15 p.m
Jan. 26
Only Yesterday (1991) 8 p.m.
Pom Poko (1994) 10:15 p.m.

I have only seen afew of this, but the ones I have seen are great. A true example of using Animation to do real storytelling. Who says Cartoon are just for kids.
